Higher Education Training and Wellbeing Consultant

Michelle Jamieson is a Higher Education Wellbeing and Training Consultant and mindfulness practitioner. Her work is motivated by a desire to assist others in cultivating greater balance, authenticity and joy in their professional and personal lives. Since 2018, Michelle has created and delivered wellbeing programs and digital resources tailored to the needs of student and staff cohorts at universities around Australia.

Michelle’s expertise in health and wellbeing stem from a blend of education and experience. Originally trained as a medical sociologist, her work is driven by an ongoing fascination with the connection between mind, body and emotions in health and illness. In 2011, she received her doctorate from the University of New South Wales for a project exploring the relationship between the psychological, emotional and biological aspects of allergies. Since then, she has published on a range of health-related topics, deepening her knowledge of mental and physical health.

At a personal level, Michelle’s experiences as both a PhD student and early career researcher brought her face-to-face with the challenges of caring for her own wellbeing while working in competitive, high-pressure environments. During this time, she began learning a range of embodied practices - including mindfulness meditation, yoga and qigong - to manage the physical and emotional impacts of stress and overwork. Today, these and other practices provide spaces to further her understanding of the mind-body connection, and assist others in managing their wellbeing.

Michelle brings this unique combination of knowledge and experience to her teaching, which clients describe as refreshingly honest, innovative and practical in its approach. For the past 15 years, she has worked extensively in the university sector as a HDR learning advisor and consultant developing targeted wellbeing programs for students and academic staff. Her workshops have, and continue to, help countless participants to develop greater self-reflexivity, more sustainable work practices and healthy ways of relating to themselves.
